Dodging The Spam Folder

Not a day goes by at RegOnline without one of our clients asking, “Why did my invitation email end up in someone’s spam folder?” While we can’t give an exact answer why your email was filtered, there are a number of things that can be done to increase your chances of evading the black hole that is the spam folder.

Let’s take a minute to look at how spam filters work. When an email is received, the spam filter compares it to a list of criteria to determine whether or not it is spam. It might be looking for large attachments, excessive images, spammy subject lines, or certain keywords. The filter then gives the email a rating which is used to determine whether the email either finds its way into the inbox or into the junk folder.
